The Merkwelt Profile Resolver is an open source Java based framework to recognize Information Appliance capabilities.
Optimize the user experience
Main goal is to enable web sites to recognize browser/device capabilities
for the best user experience on any Information Appliance that is accessing
the WWW. Sites need to learn to adapt to the client for an optimal user experience.
A "one size fits all" paradigm does not work for the already available devices
and will work even less in future when much more users will use them to access
the web.
A URL should not point to resources suited only for a specific type client, but should be able to adapt to the client specifics. Adapting can go beyond just using the client capabilities to create the markup and choosing assets ideal for the client but can show/focus specific content or service appropriate for the device.
Enabling
The Merkwelt Profile Resolver is a framework that supplies web applications
with the capabilities and properties of Information Appliances accessing them.
Key is to enable services and content to be accessible by adapting to
the client and to enable developers to have such information available
to create such adaptive web sites.
Usage
The framework can be used in any java based web application or can be integrated through web services in any web application platform such as phyton, perl or mircosoft.
Merkwelt is hosted by SourceForge. It was initially written and is maintained by Stan Wiechers.
